Vieraamme olivat hieman epäileväisemmän näköisiä. Alberton valmistaessa cheddar-perunamuusia ja viskikastiketta Vittorio ja Giulia ilmestyivät kuitenkin keittiöön. Heidän mielestään haggis tuoksui aivan hyvältä, ja niinpä he maistoivat sitä. Kun lapset olivat kehuneet ruokaa, Roberto ja Giovannakin uskaltautuvat maistamaan sitä, ja pian he totesivatkin ennakkoluulonsa turhiksi.
Sitten olikin Roberton perheineen aika lähteä kotiin Italiaan. Heitimme haikeat jäähyväiset salin puolella, ja Viivi kärräsi jopa lelunsa hyvästelemään vieraita. Hieman häntä toki taas harmitti leikkikavereiden lähteminen, mutta pian hän piristyi, kun muistutimme, että Victoria ja Freija asuivat edelleen naapurustossa.
Seuraavien viikkojen aikana onkin sitten kiirettä piisannut. Alberto on ehtinyt päivätöidensä ohella puuhastelemaan myös kaitafilmiharrastuksensa parissa. Eräänä iltana olimme Viivin kanssa kokoamassa palapeliä salissa, kun keittiöstä alkoi kuulua kummallista meteliä. Välillä Alberto soitteli siellä Timo Rautiaisen uutta levyä, ja heti kohta sen perään kyökissä kuului raikaavan tutun tyttötrio Kamalan energinen metallipoljento. Kun tätä oli jatkunut hetken aikaa, oli minun pakko mennä katsomaan, mitä se kultaseni siellä keittiössä oikein puuhaili. Näky oli hämmentävä: Alberto puuhasteli pöydän ääressä edessään kaksi kasaa filmejä, levysoitin sekä kelanauhuri.
- Mitä ihmettä sinä teet?
- Leikkaan musiikkivideota sekä Timo Rautiaiselle että Kamalalle, selitti Alberto.
- Ovatko he tehneet jonkun yhteisen biisin?
- Ei vaan teen kummallekin ihan omaa videota.
- Siis leikkaatko sinä kahta musiikkivideota yhtä aikaa? minun oli pakko vielä varmistaa.
- No siis kyllä... Onhan tämä ehkä hieman kaoottinen tapa toimia, mutta näin tässä nyt kävi, vastasi Alberto hämillään.
- Ja mihin sinä tarvitset sekä levysoitinta että kelanauhuria yhtä aikaa?
- Timon levy on jo julkaistu, joten voin ottaa musiikin suoraan levyltä, mutta Kamalan levy ilmestyy vasta maaliskuussa, joten joudun kopioimaan ääniraidan masternauhalta, selitti Alberto innoissaan teknisiä yksityiskohtia.
Sekavasta työtavasta huolimatta kumpikin video valmistui ajallaan. Kamalan video julkaistiin ensimmäisenä viime perjantaina. Ystävämme Goot ja Ti ovat Kamalan suuria faneja, ja he syöksyivät meille pikkusiskonsa Freijan kanssa heti kun saivat vihiä, että video olisi näytillä. Katsoimme videon yhdessä YouTubesta:
- Olet tainnut ottaa aika paljon vaikutteita joululahjaksi saamastasi Caravaggion maalauksia esittelevästä kirjasta, totesi Freija Albertolle videon nähtyään.
- No jos kerran lähtee ideoita varastamaan niin kannattaa saman tien varastaa parhailta, myhäili Alberto. - Ja myönnän toki olevani nykyisin varsin viehtynyt caravaggiomaiseen chiaroscuro-tekniikkaan, selitteli Alberto.
Eihän meillä enää muusta ruokapöydässä puhutakaan, mietin itsekseni, mutta en kuitenkaan sanonut mitään, sillä olihan Alberto toki myhäilynsä ansainnut - video kun ei ollut lainkaan hullumpi. Jäämmekin mielenkiinnolla odottelemaan, koska Timon video on nähtävillä...

Burns supper and trapped by two music videos
On our trip to Scotland last summer we learned a lot about the Scottish way of life. Therefore we were aware of the tradition of the Burns supper, a celebration of Scottish national poet Robert Burns on January 25th. It is customary to enjoy a supper consisting of haggis and Scotch whisky that night and as we had bought some canned haggis as souvenir, we decided to have a Burns supper of our own.
Our guests were a bit skeptical about it first when Alberto opened the haggis cans. However, when he was preparing the mashed potatoes with Cheddar cheese and the accompanying whisky sauce, Vittorio and Giulia stumbled into the kitchen, asking where was the good, meaty aroma coming from. After they had tasted a wee bit of haggis and praised its taste, Roberto and Giovanna also dared to have a taster that soon dispelled their prejudice.
On the day following the dinner it was time for Roberto and his family to return to Italy. We bid them wistful farewells and Vivian even wheeled her toys into the living room to say goodbye to our guests, too. Vivian was again not too happy about letting her playmates to go but she cheered up soon enough when we reminded her that Victoria and Freya were still living in the neighborhood.
During the next few weeks our life returned to its usual hectic ways. On top of his usual nine-to-five job Alberto managed to find some time for his beloved hobby of making some 8mm films. One night while I was solving a puzzle with Vivian in the living room, Alberto started to make weird noises in the kitchen. He was playing the new record of his friend Timo Rautiainen first but soon switched to an all-girl metal trio Kamala - and then again back to Timo's record. After this had continued for a while, I had to go to see what was going on. The sight in our kitchen was confusing: Alberto was working with two piles of raw film, a record player and his reel-to-reel tape recorder.
- What on earth are you doing? I asked.
- I am editing a music video for Timo Rautiainen and Kamala, Alberto answered.
- Have they made a song together?
- No, I am making separate videos for both.
- Are you saying that you are editing two music videos simultaneously?
- Well... Yes... I agree that this may look a bit confusing, now when you ask, Alberto murmured as an excuse.
- And why do you need both the record player and the tape deck?
- As Timo's album has been released already, I can take the music for the video from the record, but as Kamala's album is coming out in March, I have to copy the soundtrack from the original master tape, Alberto explained enthusiastically.
Despite the chaotic working conditions, both videos were completed by the due time. The video for Kamala's new single was released first last Friday. Our friends Goth and Tic are big fans of Kamala and they hurried to visit us with their little sister Freya as soon as they heard that it was possible to see the video.
- Looks like the book about Caravaggio's paintings you got as a Christmas present has influenced your work a lot, Freya observed to Alberto once she had seen the video.
- Well, if one is to steal ideas from others, one has better to steal them from the best, Alberto replied jokingly. - And I agree that I am quite fond of Caravaggio's chiaroscuro technique these days.
I was about to say something about Alberto's obsession, but decided to stay silent about it at the end - after all, as the video was rather good, I thought Alberto had the right to enjoy his moment of complacency. Now we are anxiously waiting for that other video to get its premiere...
