Alberto vitsaili.

- Paikkahan itsessään on mitä mainioin.

- No sitten meidän pitää mennä tapaamaan häntä.

Hetken kuluttua Alberto tuli takaisin kantaen tarjotinta.
- Jokaiselle oma Wallander, olkaa hyvät, hän sanoi laskien eteemme leivokset.

Söimme huvittuneina Wallander-leivoksemme.
- Varsin mainio Wallander, eikä lainkaan fiktiivinen, Freija totesi lopuksi.

- Oi, minä haluaisin joskus kokeilla tuollaista, Victoria innostui.

- Prinsessastahan tulee kuningatar, Victoria selitti.

Seuraavassa huoneessa Freija innostui.

Emme itse asiassa löytäneet edes kuninkaallista vessaa.

Sen sijaan löysimme kuninkaan. Emme tosin uskaltaneet kysyä hänen nimeään, koska emme tienneet, miten kuninkaallisia tulee puhutella.

Sitten linnakierros olikin tehty. Olimme juuri lähdössä, kun huomasimme oudon hökötyksen.
- Hah, täällä on näköjään keksitty steampunk jo keskiajalla, Freija naureskeli.

Stone Aged in Skåne and princess dreams in Kalmar

If the evening in Ystad had been delicious, the next morning didn't disappoint either - Our House's breakfast was delightful and served in a sunny dining room with an option to eat in the garden, too. There were lots of fresh fruits, bread, roe spread and Brie cheese. The guest house's cat accompanied us during the breakfast.

After the breakfast and check-out we went to see places around the downtown.

- We must be very careful as we might encounter criminals here, I was worrying.
- Oh dear, you have been just reading too many of those Wallander stories, Victoria sighed.

After a while I had to admit that Victoria probably was right. We didn't encounter any sort of trouble but ended up finding Latinskolan, the oldest surviving school building in the whole Scandinavia.
- Now this is real old school stuff, Alberto joked.
- Oh dear, it's going to be a long day if uncle Alberto's jokes are this bad already in the morning, Freya commented.

Next to Latinskolan stood the handsomely decorated Mariakyrkan, the St. Mary's Church. We managed to quickly peek inside before we had to leave as the Sunday morning sermon was just about to begin.

The downtown Ystad is populated by charming old half-timber houses, the most famous of them being the 17th century Änglahuset, The Angel House. The name of the house originates from its angel paintings - luckily they didn't adopt the name from serious looking fellows who also appeared as part of the
decoration.

Our next destination was the charming Café Bäckahästen where we stopped for some blueberry ice cream.
- In this café Wallander tried to have a romantic moment with his love-interest Ella but with less than stellar results, I recalled from the book I had read.
- Must have been his own fault, I guess, as there's definitely nothing wrong with the place itself, was Alberto's verdict on the matter.

After the ice cream we went to see the big cloister nearby. The building was quite honorable-looking and hosted a chapel and a museum. The part of the cloister we found most interesting, however, was its rose garden on its backyard. Vivian, Victoria and myself kept ourselves busy running from flower to flower, admiring their beauty, while Freya was trying to detect the exact species of various roses from the paw computer.

Cloister's rose garden was not the only place with roses in downtown Ystad - actually they were everywhere.
- It is quite weird when there are roses in front of every door, Alberto said when we were walking the streets in the middle of lovely, well-kept wooden houses.
- I believe aunt Olivia thinks it is extremely romantic, Freya noted.

After all the walking we were getting a bit hungry. A nice, quite Italian-like pizza at Bröderna M - a nice restaurant we found conveniently just around the corner - quickly revived us.
- I think we are now ready for further exploration of the country side of Skåne, Alberto announced.
- Oh, do we really need to go already? I started to worry. - We haven't seen the good inspector Wallander yet!
Freya was about to say something about fictional character but Alberto soothed her and said:
- Let's go to meet him, then.

We were a bit puzzled first when Alberto led us to the Café Fridolf but then I remembered that Wallander had bought some cakes from here for his colleagues in one of the stories. Maybe it was still possible to meet him after all!
- Just take your seats while I go pick up Wallander, Alberto told us.

After a while he came back carrying a tray.
- A Wallander for everyone, he said and served us with five Wallander cakes.
- Looks good and not a tiny bit of fictional, Freya laughed.

Once we were done with the cakes it was time to leave Ystad and move on to the country side.
- The next stop will be the Stonehenge of Skåne, Alberto informed us.

After a short ride we arrived Kåseberga where we found Ales stenar, Ale's stones, a megalithic ship like monument built of stones. Freya was excited and ashtonished at the same time:
- This is a true celebration of mysticism!

There was no denying that, the stones were quite mysterious indeed. And the place itself was quite impressive, too, providing an unbelievable panorama over the Baltic sea off the high rocky cliffs. It was a field day for the paraglider enthusiasts who were flying and making cunning stunts high above the sea. It was fun to watch but definitely too dangerous to try - at least for me.

From Ales stenar our trip continued to a nearby castle of Glimmingehus.
- According to my pawlet there are a good number of ghosts living in here, Freya reported as we entered the castle grounds.

I was terrified about these news and hesitated a good while before I set my paw inside the castle. I was relieved when I didn't meet any ghosts after all. However, we did see something interesting: there was a vacuum cleaner stored in the basement.
- I have always wondered how they kept the castles clean and tidy back in the medieval times but this seems to explain everything now, Alberto summarized his thoughts about our discovery.

After the short visit to Glimmingehus it was time to bid farewell to Skåne and the Swedish country side and head to Kalmar on the east coast of Sweden. Our first destination there was the cathedral. The facade of the building wasn't too much church-like but the interior turned out to be quite magnificent. There was quite a remarkable set of heraldry on display on the walls and they did even have a quite bearish one, too.
- I think I will adopt that one as my personal coat-of-arms when I become a queen, Victoria declared.
- You will become a queen? I was wondering.
- Sure, a princess will become a queen one day, Victoria explained with confidence.

This brief royal discussion provided, as I was soon to learn, an ample overture for the most gorgeous castle experience on the whole trip - the renaissance castle of Kalmar.
- Well, it looks like they are ready defend this castle heavily if needed, Alberto said when we saw the mount and cannons on the ramparts surrounding the castle.

The girls were more interested in the princess guidance at the castle's inner yard.
- I am going to learn everything about being a princess, Victoria announced. - Freya and Vivian can be my fair maidens, if they like.

Victoria's determination was strengthened even further when we found some replicas of royal costumes inside. The true test for her conviction was the text board that was explaining how the princesses were brought up and schooled back in the day. After studying the text carefully Victoria was sure about her cause:
- I think I could manage that. It basically says that you have to be able to play various musical instruments and have fear for God.

Having that matter settled we proceeded with our tour within the castle. Along the tour we did see a lot of different rooms - some of them were grandiose and some of them, like the chapel, were more cozy. Some of the rooms were hosting various exhibitions like the one presenting the royal vintage clothes.

Alberto didn't originally think too much about the cooking facilities but he quickly changed his opinion when he saw what kind of meals had been prepared there:
- Oh boy, it is amazing that they managed to prepare all that in a kitchen like that!

Freya, on her turn, was excited of a decorated royal bed we found from one of the rooms.
- This is the famous bed that was brought from Denmark as a trophy and was given very rough treatment to make sure that it was not haunted by Danish ghosts and evil spirits! she said.
- Well, I do hope that one can now sleep peacefully in it, I voiced my opinion to that.

We also got to see the room of King Eric which had a secret escape passage way - unfortunately it was so secret that we couldn't find it. We did find, however, the king himself but he was too busy to chat with us. On our way out we also saw an extremely weird piece of metal work which prompted Freya to joke:
- Looks like they invented steampunk already back in the medieval times.

As we were proceeding back to the gate we noticed that Victoria had gone missing! After searching for her for a while we spotted her at the ticket office.
- Are you really sure you don't need a princess here? she asked from the lady on the counter.
- Unfortunately we are hiring only people who are at least 18 years old, she regretted.
- Are there any chance that you could make an exception that eight years would be enough, too? Victoria tried once more.

It was soon clear that Victoria was fighting for a lost cause and our wanna-be princess had to just abandon her royal plans and leave with us. As we were walking back to our car, Victoria was dragging behind and sulking by herself. Luckily Alberto still had some sweets he had bought from the ferry and everybody was soon happy again when Alberto granted us access to his stash.

After a day this long it was finally time to retreat to the camping site for the night. Vivian was more than happy to discovered that they had a dedicated pool for juniors and she spent rest of the evening splashing around in the water while we others were playing minigolf before getting to the bed.
